M. Sc. in Physics (with special emphasis on Astrophysics and Space Science)

To be conducted jointly by St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata and Bose Institute, Kolkata

The present M.Sc course is designed to serve the need of the future generation students. The emphasis of the curriculum is on understanding the fundamental principles that govern the behavior of the physical world. The coursework is so designed that it will encourage students to take up Astrophysics and Cosmology in their future study and research work. It is expected that students will be able to learn the basic principles along with the necessary experimental techniques. The total M.Sc. course is divided into 4 semesters each of duration of six months.

This course is being conducted jointly by St. Xavier’s College and Bose Institute, Kolkata. The classes, both theory and experiment, will be held at Salt Lake campus of Bose Institute as well as at St. Xavier’s College. The schedule of the course work has been so designed that students will spend two full days at Bose Institute and rest of the days at St. Xavier’s College. The course work comprises of theory, experiments and tutorials. The tutorials are mandatory. The syllabus of the course consists of Core modules, Standard modules, Optional modules, Advanced/Special modules and Interactive modules.

Admission procedure for M.Sc.

The admission procedure for M.Sc. starts around July-August. B.Sc.(Physics Hons.) candidates with minimum 55% marks may apply for admission. A written test followed by an interview is conducted for final selection. For details regarding the admission procedure and fee structure please visit St. Xavier’s College Website.
